Immigration and Foreigners Bill

India is one of the most different countries among others for many reasons. It is not only diverse and full of culture but also welcoming to all those who need a safe shelter. However, such immigration patterns can be a concern for national security.

Hence, the Lok Sabha of India recently passed a new bill called the Immigration and Foreigners Bill of 2025. The primary aim of the bill is to oversee the movements of foreigners in the nation so that no foreigner can overstay their welcome, especially for the intent of ‘creating conflict’.

Read the article to learn more details about the newly passed bill and its expected impact on the nation and its people.

What Is The Immigration And Foreigners Bill Of 2025?

Recently, the Lok Sabha of India passed a new bill called the Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025. The overall objective of the new bill is to keep an eye on the activities of foreigners entering the nation.

Some of the major points about the newly passed bill are laid down below for one’s better understanding:

1. Mandatory Registration

Every foreigner who crosses the boundaries of India is required to go through the compulsory registration process.

2. Special Recordkeeping By Hotels

The hospitality establishments such as hotels, universities, or hospitals are also ordered to provide online information regarding foreigners opting for the service of their establishment.

This will not only help the government of India in keeping an account of the movements of the foreigners but also catch foreigners engaged in illegal activities like drug cartels or hawala traders or anything else.

3. Denial Of Entry

Under Section 3 of the Immigration and Foreigners Bill of 2025, the authorities of India can deny individuals from crossing the boundaries of the nation if they are perceived to be national threats. The government of India can also stop foreigners from leaving the nation.

4. Proving Status

The right to prove that a person is a foreigner or not lies with the person suspected to be a foreigner as per the new bill.

5. Penalties

A penalty up to Rs. 5 lakh or imprisonment for 5 years will be imposed on foreigners who try to cross the borders without a passport or visa.

What Is The Need Of The Bill?

The Immigration and Foreigners Bill of 2025 has been passed to increase and improve the quality of national security for the protection of India’s citizens and the country as a whole.

The Home Minister of India, Shri Amit Shah, expressed that, “To bolster national security and economy, to make our universities global, to lay the foundation for R&D, and to make this country the best in 2047, this Bill is very important… Whoever enters our territory, when, for what time period, and with what intent, it is important for us to know. We will track in detail the entry of each foreigner in India”.

India will still welcome all those who need a safe shelter or quality services, but that doesn’t mean that people from other countries can overstay their welcome illegally. Anyone crossing the borders with the intent of ‘creating conflict’ will have to face the wrath of India’s stringent law.

Conclusion

The newly passed bill. i.e., the Immigration and Foreigners Bill of 2025 is a step in the right direction taken for strengthening the national security of both the citizens of India and the country as a whole.
