In today’s world, food is not only a physiological need but a luxury. The central and state governments of India have launched various social welfare schemes and programs to provide food grains at subsidised prices to people from economically backward sections of society. But the quality of the provided food grains is still not up to the mark.
To change this scenario, the state government of Telangana announced that they’ll be distributing fine rice completely free of cost to ration cardholders. It is one of the most unique initiatives taken up by any state government or the central government.

The state government of Telangana recently made an announcement concerning fine rice. The government has decided to distribute fine rice without any charges. The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, launched this scheme in Huzurnagar on the occasion of the Telugu New Year.
Important details about the announcement concerning fine rice are mentioned below in points for one’s better understanding and reference.
Only those individuals who have a white ration card can collect 6 kilograms of fine rice without any payment.
Around 2.8 crore white ration cardholders have already registered to receive the benefits. The authorities received around 30 lakh new applications as well, totalling up the number of people to 3.10 crore.
Eligible beneficiaries can collect the fine rice from the nearest Public Distribution System (PDS).

The primary reason behind this decision is the existing condition and instances surrounding the use of rice. Before this decision, coarse rice was being distributed to people with white ration cards, but instead of using it for consumption, white ration cardholders sold it to rice millers for 10 Rupees per kg. Then, rice millers recycle the rice and sell it further for 50 Rupees per kg.
To break this cycle, the CM of Telangana decided to distribute fine rice without any charges so that people could consume it rather than sell it because of the poor quality and negligible nutrient content of the coarse rice.
The Minister of Civil Supplies, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, claimed that Telangana is the first state in India to introduce such an initiative, which will provide food security to 84% population of the state.
The state government of Telangana has announced one of the most unique initiatives that targets not only the distribution of food grains but focuses on the quality of those food grains too.
