The Indian farmer has always played a pivotal role in nation-building by ensuring food security. However, many small and marginal farmers struggle with low incomes and debt. To provide financial support to farmers and alleviate their hardships, the Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Yojana or Prime Minister's Farmer Reward Programme. This scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of farmers through direct benefit transfers.
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Yojana was launched February 24, 2019. However, to extend the benefits to more people, the government brought it into effect from December 01, 2018. The scheme seeks to provide financial support to farmers to help them lead a better life.
The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi yojana has benefited 107 million farmers across India so far and is aiming to extend its benefits to more and more farmers worthy of it.
