Potholes are a frequent issue that can make driving hazardous and challenging. They develop when weather-related, traffic-related, or poorly constructed roads sustain damage that leaves holes in the pavement, no matter how big or small. These potholes can damage cars, inflict discomfort on drivers and passengers, and occasionally even result in collisions.
The government has released the Meri Sadak app as a part of the Government’s Citizen Feedback System and developed under the Ministry of Rural Development to address this problem even about those roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). With the help of the Meri Sadak app, people can notify the authorities directly about potholes and other road issues.
The Meri Sadak app evolved from the Ministry’s Road Accident Database Management System and has been made available for the public to download free of charge on Android mobile platforms.
It allows users to highlight issues such as potholes in roads, congested roads, faulty measurements taken during construction, lack of streetlights, missing signboards, etc. through images and descriptions.
The app automatically routes complaints to oversight agencies like the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Public Works Department (PWD), etc. based on the location of the road, be it a state highway, rural road, municipal street, etc.
After processing, the agency provides feedback on the action taken, which the complainant can track through the app, along with estimated resolution timelines.
The Meri Sadak app features a user-friendly interface. To file a complaint, one needs to follow the following steps:
Step 1: Download and install the Meri Sadak app from the Play Store.
Step 2: Sign up through your mobile number or email.
Step 3: Enable location access when prompted so the app can capture coordinates.
Step 4: Tap ‘Add Issues’ on the home screen to start making a complaint.
Step 5: Select the type of road where the issue is being faced from options like NH, SH, Major District Road, etc.
Step 6: Explain the problem through text or images and tap ‘Submit’
Step 7: A new complaint is now saved in the ‘My Complaints’ section to track the status.
On successful submission, citizens get an SMS acknowledging their complaint along with a unique token number to follow up. The app shows estimated resolution timelines once the agency starts investigating.
Users can also view or comment on problems highlighted by others in their vicinity and share feedback after approved fixes.
The Meri Sadak app comes packed with the following features:
User-Friendly Interface: Easy-to-use app for reporting road issues with just a few taps.
Quick Complaint Filing: Allows instant reporting of potholes, broken roads, and other problems.
Photo Upload: Enables users to upload images of the road issue for better clarity.
Real-Time Tracking: Monitor the status of your complaint directly through the app.
Direct Communication: Connects citizens directly with relevant authorities for faster resolution.
Nationwide Coverage: Report road issues from anywhere across India.
Improved Road Safety: Helps in maintaining smoother, safer roads for everyone.
